Tricia Barrera to address the Hispanic Women's Network of Texas RGV Chapter on Organ Donation
The Hispanic Women's Network of Texas Rio Grande Valley Chapter will
have Tricia Barrera as their speaker on at their meeting on Wednesday,
August 20, 2008, at the McAllen Chamber of Commerce at 1200 Ash Ave. In
McAllen, Texas the luncheon meeting starts at 12:00 (noon). Tricia
Barrera, is the Public Relations Coordinator for Texas Organ Sharing
Alliance and covers the valley area.
The Texas Organ Alliance has designated the Month of August as National Minority Donor Awareness month.
National Minority Awareness is celebrated annually and it is a
nationwide observance to educate minorities of the desperate need for
donation and transplantation within the multicultural community how to
designate their decision to DONATE LIFE. Approximately 53% of those on
the national waiting list are minorities. In 2007, 10,752 minority
individuals received an organ transplant. There were 2,669 minority
deceased donors and 1,851 living donors.
STATISTICS: 2008 Minorities are in desperate need of Minority organ and tissue donors.
There are more than 50,000 minority individuals registered on the
U. S. transplant waiting list. Minorities make up 20% of the U. S.
population and comprise 53% of individuals on the national organ
transplant waiting list. They represent 26% of living and deceased
organ donors. Anyone can be a potential donor, regardless of age or
medical history. A single donor can save or improve the lives of more
than 50 people.

The Hispanic Women's Network is a state wide nonprofit
organization made up of individuals from diverse backgrounds who are
committed to promoting the participation of women in public, corporate
and civic life. It seeks to advance the educational, cultural, social,
legal and economic well being of women through a broader awareness of
their role in society, business and the family. It welcomes into its
membership anyone who is supportive of its purposes and who cooperates
in carrying out its programs of education and activities.
HWNT membership consists of professional business women; of these
65 to 70 percent are business owners with a common goal: to mentor and
educate the entire membership.
The Hispanic Women's Network (RGV Chapter), is a nonprofit 501C/3
organization that promotes its members and invites anyone who is
interested in networking to attend the monthly luncheons that are held
every second Wednesday of each month at the McAllen Chamber of Commerce.
The Hispanic Women's Network of Texas, Rio Grande Valley Chapter
will hold their monthly meeting on Wednesday, August 20, 2008, at the
McAllen Chamber of Commerce (1200 Ash Street) at 12:00 (NOON).

HWNT membership consist of professional business women, of these
